Introduction

Iron contamination in water sources is a persistent issue in many parts of the world, leading to unpleasant taste, staining, and potential health concerns. Addressing this problem requires efficient filtration solutions, and DMI-65, an advanced catalytic filtration media, has emerged as a leading choice. This case study highlights the effectiveness of DMI-65 media in an iron removal system installed by Anivi Water Treatment, Kochi, and demonstrates its performance through before-and-after water quality analysis.

Project Details

  • OEM: Mr. Jobin, Anivi Water Treatment, Kochi +91 9061546209

  • Location: Arch Bishop House, Ernakulam

  • Objective: To reduce high iron levels in the raw water supply using DMI-65 filtration media

  • Filtration System: Multi-stage filtration system utilizing DMI-65 media

Results & Efficiency

The DMI-65 media effectively reduced iron levels from 48 mg/L to 0.08 mg/L, achieving a 99.83% removal efficiency. This demonstrates the media’s superior performance in oxidizing and filtering dissolved iron, rendering the water fit for consumption and industrial usage. Additionally:

  • Turbidity reduced from 51.40 NTU to 0.2 NTU, improving clarity.

  • The treated water met the BIS permissible limit for iron content (<0.3 mg/L).

  • Minor pH adjustments may be required to further enhance water quality.

About DMI-65 Media

DMI-65 is an advanced catalytic filtration media designed for the removal of iron, manganese, and arsenic from water. The media utilizes an oxidation-reduction process to convert dissolved iron into insoluble ferric hydroxide, which is then efficiently filtered out.

Key Benefits of DMI-65:

  • High Iron and Manganese Removal Efficiency: Removes up to 99% of iron and manganese.

  • Long Media Life: Up to 5–10 years of operational lifespan.

  • Compatible with Chlorine & Oxidants: Works effectively with chlorine dosing, enhancing oxidation.

  • Fast Reaction Time: Requires shorter filtration cycles compared to conventional media.

  • NSF/ANSI 61 Certified: Ensures safety and suitability for drinking water applications.

Conclusion

This case study reaffirms the high efficiency of DMI-65 media in iron removal applications. The filtration system installed by Anivi Water Treatment, Kochi, successfully transformed highly contaminated raw water into clean, usable water that meets drinking water standards.

For industries, municipalities, and households dealing with excessive iron content, DMI-65 media provides a cost-effective, reliable, and long-term solution to ensure water purity.
